I hope your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving break. I'm sure some of you are as amazed that it is almost December as I am!
In math, we are working on multiplication facts to 9. Please see the links below for practice. I will also be sending home flashcards shortly for students to review nightly.
Our money unit starts this week in reading. Great timing around the holidays! Students will be learning how money has changed over time and how it varies from country to country. If you have any money or related item that your child can share, please send it in. Anything of great value is best to be kept at home.
Our spelling paragraph this week is:
My Christmas Wish
I am hoping to get amazing things for Christmas. One dream gift would be an iPod to be playing my favorite tunes. Another dreamy present would be a spectacular toy like a DSI or mini projector. But the best gift would be cherished time with family and friends! I hope Christmas is swell!
** our focus skill is -ing endings and base/root words
Welcome to 3rd grade at Lincoln Elementary! This will hopefully be a useful tool to you to follow our classroom and keep up on the events going on in Room 15

November 16th
This week's spelling paragraph is:
Rib-bit or Croak?
Some people may think frogs and toads are the same, however, they are not. To begin with, frogs live in wet places like marshes and swamps, but toads make dry places like deserts their home. Another difference is frogs have long, strong back legs for leaping and toads have shorter back legs for walking along the dusty ground. One similarity is they are both cold-blooded amphibians. Although they may look similar, clearly they are not.
We are working on comparing and contrasting animals and their habitats. Students will be researching and completing their own animal habitat poster with a partner.
Wednesday we will be having our chapter 4 test in math. Please be practicing multiplication facts 0-5 at home with your child.
A great site with many multiplication games is:
http://www.multiplication.com/interactive_games.htm
Don't forget that conferences start on Friday. Please try to make the time scheduled for you as there aren't many available slots to reschedule to. It is important with so many conferences that you arrive on time and I will try my best to end on time. I would ask that you bring your child with you.

Week of November 9th
Our spelling paragraph this week is:
In reading, we have been learning about many different animal habitats. One habitat could be the desert where you can find slithering rattlesnakes and poisonous scorpions. Another habitat is the deep, blue ocean. There gigantic whales, slippery eels, and playful dolphins live. Our last habitat is the deep, dark forest. Timid deer, scary cougars, howling wolves, and fierce bear all live in the woods. Truly, animals all reside in very different habitats.
** Just a reminder that punctuation and capitalization DO COUNT!!!
In math, we will continue to work on multiplying by 0, 1, 2, 4, 5, and 10. Please see the link below.
In reading, we are finishing up our animal habitat unit with the story "Crinkleroot's Guide to Animal Habitats".
Don't forget Wednesday is Veteran's Day and no school. Our Veteran's Day program is Monday morning at 8:45 for those of you who would like to attend.

Friday will be the last day to meet this trimesters AR goal. Taelor has accumulated 90 points this trimester! Way to go Taelor!!!

We were visited by author Stephanie Green today. Her website is:
I'm sure the students enjoyed her just as much as I did.
