It's hard to believe, December is already here!
This week we are reading the story "Two Days In May". It is a story about deer that have made their way into a garden in the city. Please be looking for newspaper or articles about animals in the city and send them in with your child.
In math, we will be starting a unit on place value and decimals. A good math website to practice place value is http://www.mhschool.com/math/mathtoolchest/mtc_online/
Our spelling skill focus this week is homophones. Words that sound the same, but have different meanings. You will notice there are several words that have homophones like there / their, fair/fare, tail/tale, and horse/hoarse. This week's spelling paragraph is:
The Tale of The Fair Maiden
Once upon a time, there was a fair maiden named Ms. Brewer. She rode by herself across the kingdom on a fine horse named Alex. Everything seemed peaceful. Instantly, a cluster of children appeared out of nowhere and turned Ms. Brewer into a croaking toad. Unaware she was beneath his hoof, Alex squashed the croaking maiden ending the tale of this fair lady.
The End
Welcome to 3rd grade at Lincoln Elementary! This will hopefully be a useful tool to you to follow our classroom and keep up on the events going on in Room 15

November 24th

Mr. Campbell braved becoming an ice cream sundae. Thank you to all our Lincoln families that supported the jog-a-thon. We met our school goal!
Thank you too to all the parents who made the schedule conference times. I appreciate you!
Homework over Thanksgiving break? Most students do not have homework over Thanksgiving break. However, some do. If your child has not finished their Magic Tree House book and passed their AR test with 80% or better, then they must finish the book and be prepared to take a test on Monday. If they finished a book, but did not get at least 80% on the AR test, they must read another book and come ready to take another AR test. The Magic Tree House website is http://www.randomhouse.com/kids/magictreehouse/. This has some fun activities and information about the author for kids.
We have been working on animal habitats in reading. Students have enjoyed the National Geographic website http://kids.nationalgeographic.com/Animals/CreatureFeature/. This site gives information on animals and has actual video clips for students to watch. Enjoy!
I would like to take this time to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving and a restful time off with family!
